Municipal Excess Liability Joint Insurance Fund:
Since 1985, the MEL system has become one of the most successful shared services programs in the state's history - saving New Jersey taxpayers over $1 billion to date. The MEL is a governmental entity that provides excess insurance and services to 19 local Joint Insurance Funds (JIFs) representing over 60% of local governments in New Jersey including 383 municipalities, 74 utility authorities, and 90 housing authorities. With an annual budget of $200 million and a statutory surplus of over $100 million, New Jersey's MEL system is the largest municipal property/casualty risk pool in the country.
NEWS and Recent Additions: Notice The Municipal Excess Liability Joint Insurance Fund, a public entity established under NJSA 40A:11-5 (1) et. seq., has scheduled a Special Claims Committee meeting on Thursday, June 20, 2013 at 11:30AM. 2013 MEL & MR HIF Educational Seminar: (Click here) for the enrollment form of the 3rd annual seminar scheduled for Friday, April 12th, beginning at 9:00AM at the National Conference Center, Holiday Inn, NJ Turnpike Exit 8, East Windsor, NJ. The seminar qualifies for an extensive list of Continuing Educational Credits including CFO/CMFO, Public Works, Clerks, Insurance Producers and Purchasing Agents. There is no fee for employees and insurance producers associated with MEL and MR HIF members as well as personnel who work for service companies that are engaged by MEL member JIFs and MR HIF member HIFs.
